The volume of investments for the utilization of units for electricity production from renewable energy sources (RES) will reach $100-200 trillion by 2040-2050, according to the estimates of numerous experts, Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Alexander Novak said, Trend reports.

Novak made the remark at the 2021 International Economic Forum in Saint Petersburg.

“In Europe, by 2023, it is necessary to dispose of 14,000 wind turbines, and by 2040, about 40 million tons of wind turbines may be accumulated for recycling. The volume of solar power plants that need to be disposed of can reach 80 million tons by 2040,” the deputy PM said.

“It is very important to remember that traditional energy sources, that is, fossil resources, will still exist in the next decade. Therefore, we must make every effort to make traditional energy sources more environmentally friendly,” said Novak.
