Kazakhstan Offers Azerbaijan Joint Venture on Rig Production

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / A delegation from Kazakhstan headed by the Governor of Mangistau region, Krimbey Kusherbayev, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, made suggestions to the Government of Azerbaijan regarding the delivery of drilling rigs and consideration of the possibility to create a joint venture for their cooperation. Kusherbayev said as a result of a meeting of Azerbaijani and Kazakh companies there are plans for a joint venture to be created in the territory of the special economic zone created at Aktau Port.

"Taking into consideration that Azerbaijan has many years experience in this direction, we made such an offer to Azerbaijan. The Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan, Heydar Babayev, said that this issue will be considered and relevant decisions will be made in the near future," the Governor said. According to him, this issue will be resolved at the next meeting of the Azerbaijani-Kazakh Inter-Governmental Commission which has been scheduled to take place in May 2007 in Astana.

He considers that there are no obstacles in realizing this project. " Kazakhstan has demands for the rigs, as well as investments and wishes to realize this project, and Azerbaijan has good capacity and staff. I consider that there is an acceptable variant to resolve this issue," Kusherbayev said.
