By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:

It may take at least 3-4 years for Azerbaijan to become an associate member of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), a source in Azerbaijan's National Nuclear Research Center CJSC told Trend Oct. 31.

The problem is the lack of a proper level of human resources potential in Azerbaijan, according to the source.

“When the issue of Azerbaijan’s becoming an associate member of CERN was raised last year, we actually found ourselves in a difficult situation,” the source noted. “The problem is that we don’t have many human resources in this area. To be precise, there is only one industry specialist in Azerbaijan, while there are several dozens of such specialists in the neighboring countries.”

The associative membership in CERN makes it possible to be aware of the projects being implemented by CERN, as well as to put forward own projects. Without industry specialists, Azerbaijan’s becoming an associate member of CERN remains questionable.
