Volume of cargo transshipment through sea ports of Azerbaijan increases

The volume of cargo transshipment through the sea ports of Azerbaijan amounted to 7.2 million tons from January through October 2020, which is 6.4 percent more than the same indicator last year, Trend reports with reference to the reporting data of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.

According to the data, 93.8 percent of the total cargo volume was international transit cargo, which is 6.8 million tons, 6.2 percent was local cargo. The growth in the volume of transit cargo transshipment compared to the same period of last year was 8.9 percent.

As of the beginning of November, there were 199,300 tons of cargo in the ports of Azerbaijan.

In 2019, the volume of cargo transshipment through the sea ports of Azerbaijan amounted to 8.2 million tons, of which 7.5 million tons, or 91.5 percent, accounted for international transit cargo, and 8.5 percent - for local cargo.

In 2019, the transshipment of wagons through the ferry terminal in Alat amounted to 44,175 units, which means an increase of 2.7 percent compared to 2018. Of these, 20,331 cars (46 percent) were sent in the direction of Baku-Kuryk-Baku, 23,802 (53.9 percent) - Baku-Turkmenbashi, 42 cars (0.1 percent) - Baku-Aktau-Baku.

In 2019, the number of passengers who used the services of the port of Baku amounted to 46,265 people.

In 2019, the port of Baku recorded the highest rate in the last 28 years for the transshipment of containers and wheeled vehicles.
