Kazakhstan sees surge in revenues from transporting cargo via railways

Kazakhstan’s revenue from the transportation of cargo, luggage, and cargo luggage via railway transportation amounted to 767.1 billion tenge ($1.7 billion) over ten months of 2020, which is 5.7 percent more than during the same period of 2019, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

Revenue from the transportation of cargo, luggage, and cargo luggage via railway in Oct. 2020 amounted to 86.2 billion tenge ($201.4 million), which is a 0.6 percent increase in comparison to the same month of 2019.

The volume of cargo, luggage, and cargo luggage transported via railway during the reporting period amounted to 340.1 million tons, climbing 1.3 percent compared to the same period of last year (37.7 million tons in Oct. 2020, up by 0.6 percent year-on-year).

Cargo turnover amounted to 247.8 billion ton-kilometers rising by 4.6 percent in comparison to last year (27.7 billion in Oct. 2020, an increase of 3.5 percent).

In turn, Kazakhstan’s revenue from passenger transportation amounted to 37.9 billion tenge ($88.5 million) over ten months of 2020, which is a 58.5 percent slump in comparison to last year. October’s revenue from passenger transportation was 4.04 billion tenge ($9.4 million), which is 57.7 percent less than in Oct. 2019.

The number of transported passengers amounted to 9.3 million people, which is a 48.6 percent decline compared to the same period of last year (1.02 million passengers in Oct. 2020, down by 41.6 percent).

The passenger turnover amounted to 7.1 billion passenger-kilometers (pkm) which compared to the same period of last year is a decrease of 52 percent. October’s passenger turnover was 799.5 million pkm (44.4 percent decrease year-on-year).
