Incumbent Nuri al-Maliki will begin his second term as Iraq's prime minister after next week's Islamic holiday, an government spokesperson said on Thursday, DPA reported.
Iraqis are to celebrate Eid al-Adha from Monday to Thursday.
"Al-Maliki will officially assume his role as head of the Iraqi government after the Eid holidays," spokesperson Ali al-Dabbagh said on regional news network al-Arabiya.
Al-Dabbagh was speaking at the parliament building in Baghdad where lawmakers were gathered to appoint a speaker, setting in motion the final steps towards a tentative power-sharing deal between multiple political, religious and ethnic groups.
