Israeli police have stormed the Temple Mount / Haram al-Sharif plateau, after Muslims who had participated in Friday's prayers began throwing stones at Jews praying at the Wailing Wall underneath the compound, witnesses said, DPA reported.
Police entered the open-air plateau, which houses the al-Aqsa Mosque, and fired teargas at the crowd, they said.
The holy site is located in Jerusalem's walled, historic Old City.
East Jerusalem and Palestinian cities in the West Bank, most notably Hebron, have been tense since Israel's decision of late February to include shrines in the occupied territories on a list of "national heritage sites" which it wants to renovate.
