BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 16. Water resource problems are rapidly escalating both in Azerbaijan and on the international stage, MP and Vice-Rector of ADA University Fariz Ismailzade said at a conference on "Water and Gender Equality," Trend reports.
"Our daily lives and lifestyles often contribute to resource wastage. In this context, universities play a crucial role. They are leading institutions within society and platforms that shape the younger generation. Research conducted at universities significantly contributes to addressing water issues," he said.
Ismailzade also highlighted plans to establish a Union of Azerbaijani Universities as part of COP29, aimed at collaboratively tackling climate change challenges and sharing resources.
"We need to unite our efforts to foster a new way of living in society and support innovation. Universities can actively engage in these research initiatives. As far as I know, in the early years of the COP process, discussions were held exclusively among politicians. However, in recent years, universities, research centers, non-governmental organizations, and scientists have actively joined the process, enabling us to collaboratively address the challenges we face," Ismailzade added.
To note, the conference "Water and Gender Equality" was organized jointly by the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs, the State Water Resources Agency, and ADA University on the occasion of COP29.
The panel session discussed the impact of climate change on women's lives, their role in the protection and management of water resources, motivation to choose specialties in this field, as well as ensuring gender balance in staff appointments.
