Minister talks benefit of pipeline from Russia to supply some Kazakh regions with gas

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 26

Trend:

Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Nurlan Nogayev talked about situation with gas supplies in the country at the government’s meeting, Trend reports.

According to Nogayev, in December 2019, within the ‘Fifth Social Initiative of Elbasy (National Leader Nursultan Nazarbayev)’ program, the first stage of the Saryarka gas pipeline with a length of 1,061 km was commissioned.

The minister stressed that the first stage of the pipeline, originating from the Kyzylorda region, will provide the capital city Nur-Sultan, the central and partly northern regions with environmentally safe fuel, which is one of the most significant historical events for the country since its independence.

For the aim of providing the north regions with gas, an issue of the Saryarka pipeline’s 2nd and 3rd stages is under consideration. To supply gas to the population along the route of the 1st stage of the Saryarka gas pipeline, gas distribution networks are being built in the city of Nur-Sultan, Karaganda, and Akmola regions, he said.

"Gas supply to the capital city is divided into 3 stages. Currently, the city’s administration is involved in building the 1st stage with 9 start-up complexes. Design-survey work is currently underway on the 2nd and 3rd stages of the gas supply," noted the minister.

The Karaganda region’s administration plans to construct branches from automated gas distribution stations to the cities of Karaganda, Temirtau, and Zhezkazgan and distribution networks. In all three cities, construction and installation works are underway on the 1st start-up complexes of the 1st stage.

In the Akmola region, the construction of gas distribution networks is divided into 2 stages. The first stage is planned to implement 13 projects for gas supply to 20 settlements of Arshalyn and Tselinograd districts. The facilities of the second stage are being designed by the region’s administration. Along with the northern regions, the eastern part of Kazakhstan also remains unsupplied with gas.

The construction of a gas pipeline from the Russian Federation along the Barnaul - Rubtsovsk - Semey - Ust-Kamenogorsk route seems to be the best option for the gas supply.

"At the same time, it’s planned to build a branch towards the Pavlodar region in the Semey district. The construction of a gas pipeline along the specified route will allow providing 2.1 million residents of these regions with gas,” Nogayev further said. “The volume of consumption is estimated at 2.3 billion m3 / year. A working group has been set up between KazTransGas JSC and Gazprom PJSC. The issue is being worked out together with the Russian side.”

Thus, due to the implementation of gas supply projects, as well as the connection of facilities that have not been operated to date to gas, it’s expected to achieve a gas supply level of 55 percent by the end of 2023.

The number of gas-supplied settlements will reach 1,707, and the number of gasified population - over 10.4 million people.
