Passenger traffic at Georgian airports down for 10 months of 2020

Passenger traffic at Georgian airports decreased by 82.49 percent for 10 months of 2020, which is directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restriction of regular air traffic in the world and in Georgia, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Over the past 3 months, the country has begun to gradually resume scheduled flights, although due to the current epidemiological situation, some airlines have suspended flights for several weeks and cut some of them.

Georgian airports from January through October 2020 served a total of 799,016 flights, which is 82.49 percent less. Compared to January-October 2019, the decline is 81.71 percent.

From January through October 2020, the passenger traffic at the Tbilisi International Airport decreased by 82.90 percent. In the first 10 months of 2020, the airport carried 556,635 passengers, and in the same period of 2019 - 3.25 million passengers. In January-October 2020, compared to January-October 2019, the passenger traffic at Tbilisi International Airport decreased by 83.06 percent.

The passenger traffic of Batumi International Airport decreased by 91.04 percent year-on-year. In the first 10 months of 2020, Batumi International Airport was able to serve a total of 51,217 passengers, and these numbers are mainly fixed at the expense of the first quarter of 2020. According to statistics, in January-October 2019, the airport served 571,604 passengers, and for the same period in 2018 - 555,722 passengers.

A decrease of 74.52 percent is observed at Kutaisi International Airport, in January-October 2020 the airport served 183,426 passengers, in January-October 2019 - 719,752 passengers, and in January-October 2018 - 512,417 passengers. Accordingly, the decrease for 10 months of 2020 compared to 10 months of 2019 was 74.52 percent, and the decrease compared to 10 months of 2018 was 64.20 percent.

According to statistics, in January-October 2020, the local airport in Mestia served 59.93 percent fewer passengers than in January-October 2019.

During the reporting period, passenger traffic at Ambrolauri airport decreased by 52.04 percent.
