By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The world auto concerns’ production volume will decrease by two million vehicles in the first half of 2021, Trend reports on May 6 referring to Oxford Economics consulting company.

“The reduction is associated with a shortage of semiconductor devices (diodes, transistors, zener diodes and others), which arose in late 2020,” the company said.

"A global shortage of semiconductors has disrupted international supply chains and will remain until the end of the year,” the message said. “A global shortage of microcircuits has affected their supply for tachographs, control panels, steering wheel pushbuttons, engine control units, body electronics, multimedia systems."

“Moreover, during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns in spring and summer of last year, car plants in various countries suspended the work while carmakers reduced orders for semiconductors,” the message said.

“The production cycle of microcircuits reaches six months or more, including the creation of crystals and placement in cases,” the message said. “Therefore, the production of microcircuits began to lag behind demand since last fall, when the global auto industry began to recover its production.”

“Therefore, there is a shortage of chips for cars," specialists from Oxford Economics said.
