Azerbaijani police arrest newspaper chief editor for blackmail

Azerbaijani police arrested a newspaper chief editor due blackmailing a citizen.

The Tovuz region police officers detained Ganun va Gerchaklik (Law and Truth) newspaper Chief Editor Eldar Asgarov, the newspaper's department head Peyman Sadigov and residents of Ganja city Bakhtiyar Jafarov and Elnur Yusifov on March 9, the Interior Ministry told Trend on March 12.

The abovementioned persons videotaped at four canteens in Tovuz region and then demanded 400 manats from entrepreneurs Kazim Allahverdiyev and Yegan Babayev by blackmailing that they will spread defamatory report on them. They also demanded money from Islam Agayev and Ulkar Hajiyev.

The police filed a lawsuit on the case.
