European Union delegation headed by Spain's foreign minister, which currently holds the European Union`s rotating presidency, has visited today the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Georgia-Russia border.
"For us it is important to examine the situation on the border and see how the opening of the checkpoint contributes to improving Georgian-Russian relations. We are all interested in this," Moratinos stressed in an interview.
He met with EU representatives who are monitoring the situation on the border and the occupied territories of Georgia.
During the visit, issues connected with Georgia's security policy and the role of the EU Monitoring Mission (ECMM) will be considered.
Also, delegation representatives will meet with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze, Parliament Speaker David Bakradze, State Minister for Reintegration Temur Yakobashvili, as well as representatives of political parties.
