Pakistan's army senior representative to visit Azerbaijan (UPDATE)

The Chairman of Pakistan's joint chiefs of staff committee, General Khalid Wynne will visit Azerbaijan in autumn, Azerbaijani ambassador to Pakistan Dashgin Shikarov told Trend.

The Chairman of Pakistan's joint chiefs of staff committee, General Khalid Wynne will visit Azerbaijan in autumn, Azerbaijani ambassador to Pakistan Dashgin Shikarov told Trend.

The visit is scheduled for October, the diplomat said. He has met with Wynne today.

Azerbaijani ambassador informed General Wynne about growing authority of Azerbaijan in the world and the region, the reforms conducted in economic and army building, the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and the negotiations on its settlement, the occupation policy of Armenia, current political processes.

Ambassador also emphasized that Azerbaijan highly appreciates Pakistan's position of supporting Azerbaijan in the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, adhering the position of conflict settlement in accordance with the interests of the Azerbaijani side and non-recognition of Armenia as the state.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the occupied territories.
