Turkey cannot silently observe the deterioration in Syria and is going to do its best to stop violence in the country, Turkish president Abdulla Gul said, TRT Haber Channel reported on Monday.

In his words, Turkey keeps situation on Syrian border under control and is consulting with general staff of military forces on development of the situation.

A shell, fired from Syrian territory to Turkish territory last week, has killed 5 citizens. The shell exploded in Akachakala city in Shanliurfa province. The Syrian party has several times repeated the fire since then.

Last week the Turkish army has received a mandate for holding transborder operations. According to the mandate border artillery can strike back to military forces on Syrian border, from where shells are fired to Turkish territory.

Ankara has stated that such measures are taken in order to prevent further provocations of Syria, military actions are not going to be launched.
