Turkish Ecodenge Company will assist in preparing a strategy for managing solid wastes in Baku for 20 years, Sahil Babayev, director of Department on coordination foreign investment and assistance of the Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry, said at the presentation workshop on the preparation of this strategy.
"The Economic Development Ministry has determined consultants on the project of the integrated solid waste management in the country, with which contacts have been signed. They have already launched the works. Turkish Ekodenge Company's representatives hold meetings with representatives of the relevant structures and conduct study. The strategy will be prepared within two years and submitted to the Ministry and Azerbaijani Government," Babayev said.
In addition, it's planned to prepare analytical studies on the prediction of the number of population, the study of the existing system of solid waste management, waste composition, study of tariffs and analysis of legal aspects.
Greek Harress Pikel Consult AG Company will provide advice on rehabilitation or liquidation of the landfills for solid waste, including Balakhany landfill. Depending on their conditions, it is envisaged to reconstruct or close landfills, thereby improve the system of waste management in Baku, and reduce their environmental impact. In addition, Azerbaijani ACEP Company has been selected to assess the environmental impact of reconstruction or elimination of landfills. The company will evaluate the project's environmental impact and contribute to its decline.
Today Baku hosted presentation workshop on the preparation of development strategy for managing solid waste. The event was attended by government representatives, JSC. "Tamiz Shahar", local executive authorities and municipalities, and NGOs. Participants of the workshop were presented the methodology of preparation and institutional development strategy, also discussions were held on the topic of the waste collection, utilization, recycling, financial stability and public enlightenment in this field.
