Belarus is working on the development of a trade route in the direction of Germany-Belarus-China, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk said.
He made the remarks at the “International Conference on the role of parliamentarians in boosting economic cooperation and cultural ties along the Silk Road”, organized by the Silk Road Support Group of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Baku.
“Our goal is to create a green transport corridor Nuremberg-Minsk-Urumqi. This route is already an object of interest of a number of countries and will facilitate the transportation of goods for China and Germany, as well as expand the transit potential of Belarus,” Pirshtuk said.
He noted that transit of goods is the most important resource of the country’s economy.
“About 100 million tons of goods are transported through Belarus each year, which does not correspond to half of the real carrying capacity of the Belarusian railways,” the deputy chairman added.
Belarus is one of the first countries that supported China’s initiative to form the Silk Road route, which will serve the development of a wide range of sectors of the Silk Road countries, and in particular Belarus, including agriculture, technology, energy spheres, Pirshtuk added.
“One of the key factors in the development of these sectors is the expansion of export potential, by connecting all the countries of the Silk Road to a single transport network,” the Belarusian official said.
