Iran deputy minister: Maragha-Urmia railway to promote economic development

After the modernization of the remaining 98 kilometers of the Maragha-Urmia railway, the railway network will cover northwestern Iran, IRNA cited Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Kheirollah Khademi as saying.
For this project, 4 trillion rials (about $95.238 million) have been spent, he said.
Khademi said the total length of the railway is 183 kilometers.
He added that the railway will promote the economic development of the region.
The railway can carry 1.5 million tons of cargo and 1 million passengers a year, Khademi said.
