Georgia completes first stage of project for development of greenhouse cluster

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The first stage of the project for the development of the greenhouse cluster of the Imereti agriculture zone of Georgia has been completed, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

The Georgian-Dutch consortium presented to the Board of Directors the concept and work plan of the Geoholding & KSH cluster.

The event was attended by Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili and state representative of the Imereti region Zviad Shalamberidze.

“The implementation of the Imereti agricultural zone project will begin at the end of this year. The goal of the project is to export Georgian products to export markets. As a result, a model agricultural production zone will be created in the region on 220 hectares of land, and if successful, similar farms will be created in other regions,” Davitashvili said.

Imereti agriculture zone is considered one of the most important projects in the field of employment. According to Shalamberidze, the project will employ over 900 people.

The project will be implemented by the Agency for Rural and Agricultural Development at the initiative of the ministry of agriculture. The Georgian-Dutch consortium was selected last year on the basis of an international competition announced for a project for the development of a greenhouse cluster in the Imereti agriculture zone.
