Iran suggests Azerbaijan to create joint energy bank

In the near future, Tehran will host the first meeting of the Azerbaijani-Iranian energy cooperation committee, Iran's oil minister, the head of OPEC Masoud Mir-Kazemi said to press conference in Baku on Jan. 12.

According to him, during meetings with officials from the energy sector of Azerbaijan, it was decided to establish a bilateral committee, meetings of which will be conducted every six months.

The main goal of establishing the committee is to develop cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in the oil and electricity sectors. Mir-Kazemi also said within the committee, work will continue on the idea to create a bilateral energy bank.

According to him, it was agreed that the experts of both countries will conduct research, prepare proposals on the establishment of the bank and submit them for review in each country.
He also noted that the energy sector of Azerbaijan and Iran has well developed. The sides have significant monetary reserves, and the placement of part of these reserves will assist in developing bilateral relations in the energy sector.
