More than 37,200-megawatt hours of electricity were generated by alternative renewable energy power plants in the Gilan (northern Iran) in 5th month(22 July -21 August) of the current Iranian year, manager on electricity sales of Gilan Regional Electric Company (GILREC), Mohsen Babazadeh said, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Energy of Iran.

According to Babazadeh, 5 power plants are operating in the field of alternative renewable energy in Gilan Province.

These stations include Tarik, Sefidrud, Sineh Hooni, Bijar hydroelectric power plants, and Manjil wind turbine power plant, he added.

The operations of alternative renewable energy power plants prevent pollution and the spread of greenhouse gases into the environment.

There are 131 alternative and renewable energy power plants operating in Iran, which produce 885 megawatts of electricity a day. About 44 percent of these power plants are solar panel stations (63 units), 24 percent are wind turbines (20 stations), and 12 percent are small-scale hydropower plants. The rest falls on other renewable energy power plants.

Currently, 51 renewable energy power plants are under construction in Iran, and with their commissioning, an additional 513 megawatts of electricity will be produced a day.

Iran saved around 3,870 megawatts of electricity consumption in the last Iranian year.
