Uzbekneftegaz discovers new natural gas layers at Lower Surgil field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 18

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Specialists of Uzbekneftegaz have identified new, previously unknown layers of natural gas in the Lower Jurassic deposits in the course of studying new geological data obtained from a depth of 3,700, Trend reports referring to the press service of Uzbekneftegaz JSC.

In accordance with the decree of the president of Uzbekistan on approval of the program for increasing hydrocarbon production for 2017-2021, Uzbekneftegaz JSC is carrying out drilling and test work at the existing oil and gas wells of the fields.

In order to ensure the practical implementation of the decision, drilling has begun at a depth of 3,800 meters in well No. 14 of the Nizhny Surgil field in the Ustyurt region on behalf of the Chairman of the Management Board Mehriddin Abdullayev.

It was reported that it was decided to drill this well to a depth of 4,300 meters with the involvement of industry specialists in order to assess the prospects of new formations identified in the territory of the Nizhny Surgil field.

The tasks were also set to ensure the receipt of new geological data by deepening the drilling of the well, to study the prospects for the oil and gas potential of new formations, and to save financial resources for these purposes, by completing the tasks in the exploration processes.

Well No. 14 of the Nizhny Surgil field was drilled at 4,300 meters and tests of newly identified promising formations in the range of 3,700–4,300 meters were carried out.

As a result of testing, it was possible to obtain an industrial flow of natural gas and gas condensate from the well.

According to preliminary operational data, the production volume amounts to more than 900,000 cubic meters of natural gas and about 20 tons of gas condensate per day.

It was noted that geological exploration is currently underway at the well to determine the pressures and geological parameters of new natural gas deposits and to evaluate production capacities on an industrial scale.

According to Uzbekneftegaz JSC, the discovery of new reservoirs with natural gas reserves in the lower part of the Nizhny Surgil field opened up new directions for the specialists of Uzbekneftegaz JSC in geological exploration and field development, as well as in the growth of natural gas and gas condensate reserves in the Ustyurt region.
