The internet coverage level in Uzbekistan has reached 96 percent, while broadband access to mobile internet - to 70 percent, Trend reports via the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications Development of Uzbekistan.
According to the Ministry, some 22 million people in Uzbekistan are using internet, while the number of mobile internet users has reached 19 million.
Last year, 2,017 base stations of mobile communications were installed in the country for the development of mobile networks, with their total number exceeding 26,000.
In settlements with lacking telecommunication infrastructure, this year 12,000 kilometers of fiber-optic communication lines will be laid, and additionally 2,200 mobile communication base stations will appear in rural areas, said the ministry.
As part of the "Construction of fiber-optic communication lines" project in the country, 10,000 kilometers of fiber-optic communication lines were built in 2019, and the total length of them is 36,600 kilometers.
