Iran seeks to transform its ports to transshipment hubs

TEHRAN, Iran, Oct.15

Trend:

Iran's government is paying special attention to development of maritime trade and seeking to transform its ports into transshipment hubs, Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development Mohammad Rastad said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The country is increasing trade via ports and fleets including its ocean liners with the purpose of enhancing commodity transportation and transforming ports and container terminals to transshipment hubs, Rastad noted.

Iran's port terminals have the capacity to store 260 million-TEU of which currently only 150 million-TEU is being used.

Iran has finalized the plan to develop ports, and as the 2025 outlook suggests, economic growth is predicted in relation to commercial ports.

The Ministry of Roads and Urban Development would also provide required financial resources for the construction of infrastructures in ports and terminals.
