Uzbekistan begins recycling solid municipal waste

Modern clusters of full cycle for the utilization of solid household waste were launched in eight regions of Uzbekistan, the country's media outlets reported.

An enterprise in Karakalpakstan will allow to sort and process 78,000 tons of waste per year.

Also, the processing of solid domestic waste is being established in Navoi. The capacity of the enterprise has already reached 200 tons per day. New waste processing facilities were also opened in the Kagansky district of the Bukhara region and Mirzaabad district of the Syrdarya region.

In April 2017, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved a resolution "On Measures for Cardinal Improvement and Development of the Waste Management System for 2017-2021", with a view to ensure cardinal improvement and development of the waste management system, create decent living conditions, improve sanitation and sanitation ecological situation in the republic, further raising the level and quality of life of the population.

The document stipulated development of the waste management system and waste processing by introducing technologies for their processing at the expense of soft loans from commercial banks and entrepreneurs' funds.

The document to create in the regions of Uzbekistan an integrated system for the utilization and processing of solid domestic waste that provides the organization of collection, sorting, transportation of solid waste, as well as production of organic fertilizers, in accordance with sanitary regulations, hygienic standards and environmental requirements.

As a result, the coverage of services by the centralized removal of solid household waste in the country will increase from 63 percent in 2017 to 93 percent in 2021.
