Iran to offer free electricity to low consuming users

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov.15

Trend:

A total of 30 million citizens are qualified to receive a 100 percent discount on their electricity bills due to their low power consumption, said the Iranian Minister of Energy.

"It is hoped that people would continue low consumption and save energy and investment to establish new power plants," said Reza Ardakanian, Trend reports citing ISNA.

"The main challenge in energy is to follow the right consumption model especially in homes due to coronavirus pandemic and winter season. Comparing to low consuming users 43 percent of users in Iran have high power consumption" he added.

"The fine for high energy-consuming users was aimed to save energy and not considered as a source of revenue. The program would reward low-consuming subscribers and to encourage others to consume less," he noted.

The Ministry of Energy has approved in August that it would award low-consuming electricity subscribers with a 100 percent discount on their bills and fine users with high electricity consumption.
