Iran holds talks with S.Korea officials regarding blocked assets

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan.11

Trend:

The visit of South Korean officials to Iran was aimed at discussion on Iran's blocked assets in that country, and the seizure of a Korean ship by Iran, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said, Trend reports via IRNA.

"South Korean deputy foreign minister has conferred with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi about the mentioned issues," Khatibzadeh said.

He also said that Iran looks to have its blocked assets in S.Korea to be released.

"The Central Bank of Iran is responsible for negotiations about Iran's blocked assets. The Foreign Ministry would guide the negotiations but the Central Bank of Iran is the trustee in this case," he said.

"There is no possibility of South Korea not paying (Iran's blocked assets ), we would use all legal paths in this regard, the South Korean side has never stated that they would not return Iran's money, but no payments have been released yet," he said.

"There is currently no significant change, and we hope South Korea would not wait until the January 20 US President inauguration," he said.
