A member of Hamas died in an Egyptian prison, the Islamic movement announced on Tuesday, Xinhua reported.
Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said that Yousef Abu Zuhri died Tuesday at an Egyptian jail, where he has been held since his arrest in April.
Yousef Abu Zuhri, 38, brother of another Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri, sneaked into Sinai Peninsula through a tunnel underneath Gaza's southern border with Egypt. Egyptian security forces raided a house in al-Arish town in northern Sinai and arrested him.
Meanwhile, Sami Abu Zuhri, the Hamas spokesman, told reporters that his brother died due to torture "which caused him a severe bleeding over the past two weeks."
"The Egyptian prison authorities refused to transfer my brother to hospital until his condition deteriorated," Abu Zuhri added.
