The Turkmen Ministry of Railway Transport will conclude contracts for supplying freight wagons with British Wellsford LLP and Stock Plaza LLP, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said today.

Wellsford LLP will supply the carriage defect-scope and track measuring device, whilst Stock Plaza LLP will supply carriages to transport and prepare the track arrays, a complex of carriages to transport seamless rails, as well as special carriages to transport rubble, road equipment and tools.

Stock Plaza LLP has completed a number of orders to supply several wagons designed for transporting cement and fertilisers, grain, cement and mineral products, as well as self-unloading carriages.

A general plan of developing the railway transport sector for the period up to 2016 was approved in Turkmenistan to accelerate the development of the industry to achieve its fundamental diversification and job creation.

Moreover, Turkmenistan is implementing the North-South major railroad construction project with Kazakhstan and Iran. Its implementation will open the way to Central Asia and the Persian Gulf via the shortest, cost-effective route for European and Asian countries.

On the other hand, a similar opportunity will appear to transit goods from countries in South and South-East Asia from the Indian Ocean to Northern and Eastern Europe through to Iran, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Russia.

Moreover, Turkmenistan began implementing a project to build a railway with neighbouring Afghanistan.
