Libyan leader of the Salafi movement 'Partisans of Sharia' (Ansar al-Sharia) Mohammad Ali al-Zahawi said that Salafis is demanding the introduction of Shariah governance in the country, Al Jazeera TV channel reported on Tuesday.
According to al-Zahawi, the new Libyan government is pro-Western and pro-American.
"Anti-Islamic propaganda under slogans of democracy is underway in Libya in general and especially in Benghazi. We are against this and demand Sharia governance," al-Zahawi said.
He added that the movement 'Partisans of Sharia' does not receive support from the outside and there is no evidence that the Islamists are behind the murder of the American ambassador and destabilisation in Benghazi.
Christopher Stevens and three other US officials were killed on September 11 in an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi. The movie Innocence of Muslims released in the United States, caused a wave of anti-American protests in a number of Muslim countries, including Libya, Egypt, Tunisia and Sudan. U.S. embassies were attacked.
