Starting from next year, carpet workshops in Azerbaijan will weave carpets from local raw materials, Tural Safarov, spokesperson of Azerkhalcha OJSC, told Trend May 30.
He said that Azerkhalcha OJSC wool spinning and dyeing plant in Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park in Azerbaijan will start operating in 2020.
“Pure wool, wool fiber, natural and chemical dyes, produced at the plant, along with meeting local needs, will be exported, but at the first stage, the main goal is to meet domestic needs,” he noted. “In accordance with orders, the fiber after dyeing with natural or chemical dyes will be put up for sale, but first of all, the demand of the branches of Azerkhalcha OJSC in wool fiber will be met first, as well as other private carpet plants, and the dependence on imports will be completely eliminated.”
He also added that the harvesting of dyeing plants will begin in 2020.
“Wool harvesting has already begun in the collection points,” he said. “Collection points accept only raw wool. Measures to raise public awareness have also been carried out to organize this work at a high level. When harvesting wool, preference will be given to collecting wool that is suitable for producing fiber for making carpets, and wool that is not suitable for producing fiber will be put up for sale as raw materials after washing. It is already known which country has demand for such raw materials.”
