Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 3 / Trend K. Zarbaliyeva /

Caspian countries cannot eliminate man-made disasters in the Caspian Sea alone, head of the OSCE Office in Baku Koray Targay told media on Thursday.

Man-made disasters in the Caspian Sea can be removed only through close cooperation, he said. He stressed that accidents will affect all Caspian countries.

He added that oil companies must also be held responsible.

"The U.S. government failed to cope with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last year alone," he said.

He stressed that the OSCE intends to implement new projects.

"We plan to hold discussions with the Caspian countries and an even larger number of participants in the Baku office," diplomat said.

Baku held today a workshop titled, "Liability for oil spills at sea and international regimes to their compensation."

The event was organized by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations and the OSCE Baku office.
