Turkish airline companies launched special campaigns to boost ticket sales during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, local daily Zaman reported Monday.
Although passenger number usually drops in Ramadan, airline companies lower the ticket prices to attract people who want to travel either to celebrate with their relatives on Eid-al Fitr, the festival following the fasting month, or to simply spend their holidays, reported Xinhua.
By offering attractive and competitive prices, airline companies sold tickets for nearly 70 percent of seats, according to the report.
Turkish Airlines said their Ramadan campaign includes the sale of one-way tickets at prices starting from 79 Turkish liras (53.7 U.S. dollars), including all fees and taxes.
The airlines said they especially saw the demand for international flights in Ramadan and there is also an increase in domestic flights.
Anadolujet, a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines for competition in the low-cost market, promises tickets as low as 59 Turkish liras, including all taxes and fees.
The firm announced its campaign, which will be effective between Aug. 25 and Sept. 15 with a motto of "Let everyone be airborne and all families be together."
In addition, it will also not charge the tickets for children below 12 if their parents pay the taxes and fees on those tickets during the Ramadan campaign.
