Mughan CJSC, engaged in rice production in Azerbaijan’s Astara district, plans to establish product supply abroad, head of Mughan CJSC Talat Mammadov told Trend on Nov. 29.

He said that the company fully ensures the demand in the domestic market of Azerbaijan, and increases the volumes of rice production.

"So far, we haven’t thought about export, but, considering the growth in production, we intend to start supplies to foreign markets," he noted. "Most likely, rice will be exported to Russia, and this plan is actively being worked out by company representatives. According to our estimates, this isn’t a matter of the near future, and this isn’t included in the company’s plans for the first months of 2019, either. But in the subsequent period, we plan to export small volumes of rice. In the future, we will focus on the demand in the Russian market."

He added that the new rice varieties brought from Italy are in the greatest demand in Azerbaijan’s market.

"In addition, Iranian rice variety Hashemi is grown in Azerbaijan’s Astara district, and this rice variety is also in great demand in the domestic market,” he said, adding that the company plans to mainly export this particular rice variety.
