BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. The trilateral memorandum of understanding signed among Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia in Tehran on August 22, 2022, will contribute to increasing cargo transit and trade among the three countries, Director General of the International Cooperation Department of the Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Hossein Kakhaki told Trend.

According to Kakhaki, The purpose of signing the tripartite MoU is to facilitate and accelerate cargo transit by taking into account the existing rules among the three countries, and to regulate related transit protocols in accordance with the international commissions of which the three countries are members.

The director added that increasing the working hours of joint borders (Iran-Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan-Russia), electronic exchange of transit-related information, and regular holding of joint meetings at joint borders are reflected in the memorandum of understanding.

“Under the memorandum of understanding, the parties have committed to allowing the transit of some cargo with minimal protocols during the first major cases," he said.

Kakhaki also pointed out that according to the memorandum of understanding, Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia will exchange a list of reliable trading companies approved by the official bodies of the three countries.

On August 22, 2022, a tripartite meeting was held in Tehran with the participation of delegations led by Acting Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, First Deputy Chairman Lieutenant-General of the Customs Service Shahin Baghirov, Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Alireza Moghaddasi and Head of the Russian Federal Customs Service Vladimir Bulavi. At the end of the meeting, a tripartite memorandum of understanding was signed.
