Total assets of Kazakh banks slightly up

As of Nov. 1, 2018, the total assets of Kazakhstan's banking sector amounted to 24.5 trillion tenge, Kazakh media reported with reference to the press service of the National Bank of Kazakhstan.

This is an increase of 1.6 percent since the beginning of the year. The assets are dominated by loans — 50.4 percent, securities — 19.4 percent, cash, refined precious metals and correspondent accounts — 13.7 percent.

Meanwhile, the total liabilities of Kazakhstan's banking sector amounted to 21.6 trillion tenge, an increase of 2.2 percent since the beginning of the year. In the banks' liabilities, the highest share is held by customer deposits — 77.8 percent, issued securities — 6.8 percent, and loans received from other banks and organizations engaged in certain types of banking operations — 3.7 percent.

The total equity capital of the banking sector at the beginning of November amounted to 2.95 trillion tenge, thus decreasing by 2.6 percent since the beginning of the year.

The banks' liabilities to non-residents of Kazakhstan increased from 5.56 to 5.95 percent (to 1.23 trillion tenge) compared to the beginning of 2018.

Meanwhile, the net profit of Kazakh banks amounted to 566.5 billion tenge.
