Food prices in Uzbekistan going down

Food prices in Uzbekistan decreased in the period from March 30 through April 3, Trend reports citing the Uzbek Republican Commodity Exchange (UzEx).

Last week, the Uzbek Republican Commodity Exchange sold a total of 784.4 billion soum ($81.6 million) worth of commodities, 3.3 percent less than a week earlier.

The exchange trades are held in accordance with the established procedures and rules. At the same time, with the help of brokers, customers' remote participation in electronic exchange trading is ensured. Sellers' companies exhibit their products at exchange trades according to approved schedule.

Last week the price of 1-grade flour at the exchange decreased from 2.5 million soum ($260,287) per ton to 2.4 million soum ($249,876) per ton. Weekly flour quotation decreased by one percent compared to the previous week and made up 2,472,500 soum ($257,424) per ton.

Due to the high level of supply, prices at the sugar exchange market have decreased. In particular, the daily quotation for 3-category sugar declined last week from 5.3 million soum ($551,809) per ton to 5.2 million soum ($541,398) per ton. The weekly average weighted price for sugar also fell by two percent to 5.25 million soum ($547,468) per ton.

Stability has also been maintained asfaras cotton oil exchange is concerned. Last week, 3,937 tons of oil were put up for auction, of which 2,087 tons or 53 percent were sold. For the period under review, the average price of all varieties of cotton oil has decreased from 9.1 million soum ($947,446) per ton to 8.9 million soum ($926,623) per ton. The weekly quotation of 1 type of cotton oil made up 9,150,700 soum ($952,725) per ton, the message said.
