Monthly average salary in Azerbaijan increases

Following the increased wage and accelerated development of the private sector, the average monthly nominal wage in Azerbaijan reached 715.4 manat ($420.8) from January through July 2020, Trend reports citing the State Statistical Committee.

According to the committee, in the specifying period, the average monthly nominal wage increased by 21.7 percent compared to the same period of 2019.

As of August 1, 2020, the number of employees in the country’s economic sector rose by 4.2 percent over the year and totaled over 1.6 million people. Of these, 909,800 people were employed in the public sector, and the remaining 771,400 people – in the private sector.

Some 19.5 percent of the wage-earners employed in the country’s education sector, 18.2 percent – in trade, 13.1 percent – industry, 8.1 percent – in the construction, 6.6 percent – health and social protection, 4.5 percent – in the transport sector, 3.4 percent – agriculture, 3.4 percent – professional, scientific and technical sphere, 1.7 percent – in the finance and insurance sector, and 13.1 percent – in other sectors of the economy.

Thanks to comprehensive social reforms carried out under the relevant decrees of Azerbaijan’s president, starting from September 1, the minimum wage in the country was increased to 250 manat ($147), which significantly increased the salaries of civil servants, employees of a number of budgetary institutions, enterprises and organizations, and state oil companies.
