Azerbaijan's consumer market shrinks since early 2021

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21

Value of goods sold and services provided in order to meet the needs of consumers in Azerbaijan from January through April 2021 shrank by 1.3 percent year on year, Trend reports referring to the State Statistical Committee.

According to the committee, over the reporting period, this indicator made up 14.6 billion manat ($8.6 billion).

In the first 4 months of this year, the local private entrepreneurship entities sold and provided 14 billion manat ($8.2 billion, decline of 1.6 percent on annual basis) worth products and services, of which 47 percent accounted for individuals.

Meanwhile, each consumer used goods and paid services by an average of 365.5 manat ($215) per month, which is 7.6 manat ($4.4) more than in 4M2020.

Earlier, the World Bank forecasted growth in the consumer market of Azerbaijan by 3.7 percent in 2021, 3.6 percent in 2022, and 3.5 percent in 2023.
