The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), headed by the first vice-president, chief operating officer of the bank Philip Bennett, said the message of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan, posted on its website.

During the talks, the sides discussed priority areas of cooperation in order to improve the investment climate in Turkmenistan, issues of international cooperation for the development of private structures, strategies to increase access to finance for private enterprises and entrepreneurs, the issues of practical implementation of new joint projects.

The message said that during the meeting, the sides outlined the general strategic directions of further cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EBRD.

The bank representatives paid special attention to the issues of expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan in the energy and transport fields.

Also, representatives of the parties have expressed interest for the intensification of relations in such areas as public infrastructure, private sector and privatization.

"Noting that Turkmenistan is a kind of bridge between Central Asia and Europe, the sides discussed issues of cooperation in order to enhance regional co-operation," said the message.

Earlier, it was reported that the EBRD representatives stated about the intention of this large financial institution to steadily build fruitful cooperation with dynamically developing Turkmenistan, which plays an important role in the sustainable development of the whole region.

The EBRD program in Turkmenistan is aimed at supporting small and medium enterprises, individual entrepreneurs engaged in trade, services, construction and manufacturing.
