The Turkmenistan Security Council met under the chairmanship of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov. At the meeting, the President emphasized the "purely defensive nature" of the new military doctrine, local media reported on March 18.

Berdimuhammedov is the supreme commander of the Turkmenistan Armed Forces. He raised issues on strengthening pillars of peace and stability and ensuring the rule of law and order in the country.

Opening the meeting, the President stressed that Turkmenistan "has been steadily maintaining the neutral status, delegated to it by the international community, in the interests of the Turkmen people and the peoples of the region", state news service Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary reported.

Law enforcement ministers reported at the meeting. They talked about aspects of promoting military reforms - strengthening logistical support of the Armed Forces, training military personnel, and realizing new frontier posts construction projects.
