No court decision to close Twitter in Turkey

Baku, Azerbaijan, March 21

There has been no court decision for closing Twitter in Turkey, Istanbul's prosecutor's office said on March 21, Turkish TRT Haber TV channel reported.

Reports that allegedly Twitter was blocked by a court decision do not correspond to reality, the agency noted.

A number of Turkish media outlets reported on March 21 that Twitter microblogs had been blocked by a decision of Istanbul's court. Turkish authorities blocked Twitter on the night of March 20.

Access was blocked a few hours after Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a statement about such a possibility.

He has recently said that if necessary, the agenda may include the issue of banning the use of Youtube and Facebook to protect its citizens from external influences. However Turkish President Abdullah Gul stressed the impossibility of banning their use.
