Azerbaijan, Masally / corr. Trend A.Ismayilova / Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated in the district of Masally in south Azerbaijan, on 9 April that Azerbaijan is ready to organize the Olympic Games. He was addressing at the opening ceremony of the Sports and Olympic Center.
He noted that taking into consideration its potential, Azerbaijan has become very sports orientated Azerbaijan has appealed to international organizations with the proposal of hosting the 2016 Olympic Games. The President voiced his hopes that international organizations will take into consideration Azerbaijan's appeal.
President Aliyev stated that the first sports complex was opened in Azerbaijan in 2000. Since then, 11 more sports complexes have been built in. The construction of 14 more complexes are in the pipeline. The head of state noted that such complexes will be built throughout the country within the framework of the program on socio-economic development of regions.
The President of the European Olympic Committee, Patrick Hickey, participated in the ceremony.
