Customs Union can be renamed as BEKAR, outstanding Kazakh political scientist Nurlan Erimbetov said at the Expert Debate Club's meeting in Astana, Ca-news reported.

"The union can be renamed as BEKAR, derived from the initial letters of BElarus, KAzakhstan and Russia," Erimbetov said.

The documents on the establishment of the Customs Union were signed in Minsk on Nov.27, 2009. It has been operating since Jan.1, 2010. The Customs Union is the union of neighboring states. A single economic space was created under it to develop free trade, as well as to set higher tariffs on the external borders of the association. It includes Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

The agreed forms of state control have been moved to external borders of the Customs Union. A common system of customs rules and regulations has been introduced. As a result, mutual turnover within the Customs Union increased by nearly 40 percent in the first half of 2011.

"BEKAR is a musical sign which cancels all things appeared before it," Erimbetov explained.

Expert Debate Club's meeting on the topic of 'The Customs Union: get more than lose' is running in Astana today.

Heads of relevant government agencies, political parties, public associations and experts are taking part in the discussions.
