Iran ranks first in the Middle East and the 9th in the world with some 20 million tons of garden produce per year, the ISNA News Agency reported on Saturday.

The products are exported to 100 countries of the world, bringing over $2.87 billion income for the country.

Iraq and the UAE are the major buyers of Iranian fruits. Citrus fruits, apple, grape, and peach are the main garden products of Iran.

On June 6, the IRNA News Agency quoted Agriculture Minister Sadeq Khalilian as saying that imports of fruits decreased to 769,000 tons last year, compared to 1.08 million tons two years ago.

The cabinet has approved the allocation of 150 trillion rials (some $12.2 billion) to support agriculture projects this year, Khalilian said on May 1.

Moreover, 40 trillion rials (some $3.3 billion) have been contributed to expand agricultural infrastructure, Khalilian added.
