Kazakhstan increases funding for road repairs

Some 145.9 billion tenge have been allocated this year in Kazakhstan from the national and local budgets for the repair of the local road network, the Ministry of Investment and Development of the country said in a statement.

The funding has increased by 58.9 billion tenge as compared to 2017.

"In order to reduce the burden on the budget and to ensure self-sufficiency of the maintenance of roads in the framework of the state program "Nurly Zhol", the work on the introduction of the toll collection system continues: commissioning work for installation of the system on the road sections "Astana-Temirtau" and "Almaty-Kapshagai" and "Almaty-Khorgos" with a total length of 469 kilometers is being carried out," the message said, referring to the Minister of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan Zhenis Kassymbek as saying.

In addition, the minister noted, the development of design and estimate documentation for the installation of the toll collection system on 13 road sections with a total length of 5,500 kilometers, along the international transit corridor "Western Europe-Western China" is being completed.

The minister noted that certain work is also carried out for the installation of special automated measuring devices (SAMD) on highways of republican subordination where 12 SAMDs are operated.

"It has been planned for this year to launch another 11 SAMDs within the framework of the introduction of availability at a fee of the road sections Astana-Temirtau, Almaty-Kapshagai and Almaty-Khorgos. In 2019-2020, 34 SAMDs will be installed on toll roads and border crossing points," Kassymbek said.

The official exchange rate as of September 10 is 375.62 USD/KZT.
