Saffron fields to expand in Iran's Alborz

Iran's Alborz province has 42 hectares of saffron fields and 30 hectares of them account for the province's Nazarabad county, the head of the Nazarabad agricultural department, Iraj Almasi said, ISNA reported.
Almasi noted that the total area of the fields is expected to double in the upcoming year.
Considering the water crisis, people pay more attention to saffron growing, which doesn't require much water, Almasi said, adding that by planting the saffron once, it is possible to harvest seven years in a row, and in this case costs decrease, while profits increase.
Saffron's medicinal properties, preservation terms and high price motivate the farmers, Almasi said.
