Small business in control of Kazakhstan's trade sector

By the end of March this year, the number of small active companies in the trade sector of Kazakhstan reached 37,300 with an increase of 15.8 percent over the year, Trend reports with reference ranking.kz.

In the same period last year, their number was 32,200.

Small business undoubtedly forms the basis of the trade sector: the share of small active enterprises in the total number of active enterprises in Kazakhstan reaches 98.6 percent.

The number of large and medium-sized active enterprises in the trade sector amounted to 532 companies by April 2019, with an annual increase of 9.2 percent.

The growth potential of the commercial sector is large enough. In the fourth quarter of 2018, the income of small enterprises from the sale of products and the provision of services in wholesale and retail trade amounted to 5.4 trillion tenge, while the annual growth reached 44.9 percent at once.

In the same period a year earlier, the amount of income was 3.7 trillion tenge.

On the other hand, the income of large and medium-sized enterprises of the industry for the last quarter of last year amounted to 2.6 trillion tenge which is 30.6 percent more than a year earlier.

The potential of the market is also indicated by the growing sales volumes above the rate of inflation.

Thus, the volume of wholesale trade in January – March 2019 amounted to 4.7 trillion tenge, 14.6 percent more than in the same period last year.

In the structure of the wholesale trade, non-food products and industrial goods account for the largest share - 78.7 percent (3.7 trillion tenge).

In the first quarter of 2019, retail sales reached 2.2 trillion tenge - by 11.4 percent (plus 0.2 trillion tenge) more than in the same period of 2018.

Furthermore, the volume of trade in non-food products amounted to 1.5 trillion tenge, the share - 68.2 percent.
