Iran discloses data on annual mining extraction in South Khorasan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 25

Iran currently extracts 4.86 million tons of minerals from South Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) annually, Chairman of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of South Khorasan Province Abbas Jorjani said, Trend reports citing the organization.

The chairman noted that so far, 70 types of minerals have been discovered in the province. Of these minerals, 12 were associated with iron, 22 with copper, 7 with manganese, 6 with gold, 4 with lead and 2 with zinc.

The total area of the mines in the province is 894 square kilometers. The total reserves of these minerals are 61 million tons. At present, 1,290 people work in the mines of the South Province.

The South Khorasan Province has 50 of the 65 types of minerals discovered in Iran in terms of the variety of minerals.
