Georgia reveals revenues from tourism in 2020

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 19

In 2020, Georgia received $526.5 million from tourism, Trend reports via the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

Most of that revenue was $427.5 million in the first quarter of 2020, prior to the lockdown announcement, according to NBG.

Total revenue for the remaining 9 months was $99 million.

The data shows that tourism revenues declined by 84 percent in 2020. The country earned $3.26 billion in 2019.

Top 10 countries from where most international visits were carried out to Georgia in 2020:

1 Turkey - 335 949 visitors, decrease -71 percent year-on-year;
2 Azerbaijan - 295 175 visitors, decrease - 80.7 percent year-on-year;
3 Armenia - 261 295 visitors, decrease - 80.9 percent year-on-year;
4 Russia - 209,169 visitors, decrease -85.8 percent year-on-year;
5 Georgia (non-resident) - 140,848 visitors, decrease -71.2 percent year-on-year;
6 Ukraine - 42,428 visitors, decrease - 79.6 percent year-on-year;
7 Israel - 25,791 visitors, decrease - 87.4 percent year-on-year;
8 Iran - 17,053 visitors, decrease - 88 percent year-on-year
9 Uzbekistan - 14,470 visitors, decrease - 13.8 percent year-on-year;
10 Belarus - 14,340 visitors, decrease - 78.3 percent year-on-year;
